The Panzerkampfwagen IV served as a backbone for German armour in World War II, with production topping 8,000 units. The early Ausf.H represents a transitional upgrade combining stronger protection with proven mechanicals.
The Ausf.H retained the dependable Maybach HL120TRM engine but switched to the more capable SSG-77 transmission. Added armor and ammunition increased mass and lowered the top speed to about 38 km/h while boosting battlefield resilience.
Armament on this variant included the long 75 mm KwK40 L/48 cannon supported by twin 7.92mm MG34 machine guns. Schurzen side skirts were fitted to reduce the threat from shaped-charge weapons.
Tamiya's 1/35 representation of the Ausf.H Early Version contains over 280 parts moulded in tan plastic, rubber tracks, and a selection of external fittings such as tow cables and tool detail. Builders will value the separate suspension arms and the choice of fitting hatches in open or closed positions.
