Inside the Tamiya 1/35 German Tiger I Early Production model

The Tiger I earned its reputation with heavy armour and the powerful 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 gun, first deployed in North Africa toward the end of 1942. A competition between Henschel and Porsche produced the Henschel design for mass production, which began in August 1942. Additions like air pre-cleaners and reinforced mantlets appeared soon after, making the series produced from November 1942 to July 1943 noteworthy.

Assembly notes and model highlights

Tamiya's 1/35 rendition of the early Tiger I captures the vehicle's profile with fine detail. The kit contains over 200 parts to assemble, showing key external features and selected interior turret elements. A commander figure is included for diorama use, and the flexible, single-piece rubber tracks are designed to fit easily and display well.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Material: Dark grey plastic
  • Parts Count: Over 200
  • Assembly: Glue required
  • Tracks: Single piece flexible rubber
The kit includes select internal turret details like the breech and seating, enough to add realism if you open the hatches or build an interior diorama.
No special tools are required. The tracks are a single flexible rubber piece that can be trimmed and fitted with standard modelling tools and adhesives.
Painting and weathering are recommended to achieve an authentic look. The moulded parts provide good surface detail that responds well to washes and dry-brushing.
