The M8 Greyhound is a lightweight armoured car from World War II that served mainly as a reconnaissance and escort vehicle. Work on the design started in 1941 and Ford completed a prototype in June 1942. The Greyhound is driven by a Hercules JXD engine rated at 110 horsepower and could reach a top speed of 88.5 km/h, making it notably swift for its class.
Planned initially for armored duties, commanders favoured the M8 for scouting because of its mobility. The vehicle used six wheels and armor thickness ranged from 19 mm to 32 mm. The turret was open-topped and fitted with a 12.7 mm M2 machine gun. It was deployed across the European and Pacific theatres, with production totaling over 8,523 units from 1943 to 1945.
Tamiya's 1/35 kit reproduces the M8 with precision-moulded plastic parts that show interior and exterior detail. The chassis and suspension are well represented, and the box includes a crew figure and assorted equipment for realistic dioramas. Slide decals and clear instructions guide builders through assembly.
