The German Kubelwagen Type 82 began life as a compact civilian design by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and was quickly adapted for military use in World War II. Its monocoque frame and torsion bar springing provided a light but robust platform, paired with an air-cooled four-cylinder engine that simplified field repairs.
Deployed in North Africa, many Kubelwagen Type 82s adopted Continental balloon tyres to cope with sand and loose surfaces. Crews carried essential survival kit such as a spare tyre, shovel and canvas covers, improving operational range and reliability. Approximately 51,000 examples were produced by war's end.
The Tamiya 1/35 kit captures these desert specifics with tan-moulded parts and fine detail pieces including hooks, bonnet and rear panels. The package includes wide-tread balloon tyres, a detailed German figure, waterslide decals and comprehensive pictorial instructions for an enjoyable assembly.
