FAMO Recovery Tractor and Sd.Ah.116 Tank Carrier

Moving disabled heavy armour across varied terrain was a persistent logistic problem in WWII. The 18 Ton Heavy Half-Track "FAMO" and its Sd.Ah.116 transporter answered that need by recovering and hauling tanks from the front. Equipped with the Maybach HL 108 12-cylinder engine delivering around 270hp, the vehicle had the power required for battlefield recovery tasks.

What the Kit Shows

The Tamiya 35246 reproduces the FAMO and trailer with clear scale fidelity, offering modellers an engaging build project. At roughly 640mm long the assembled model makes an imposing display piece in a collection. The kit uses realistic rubber tyres and metal detail parts, and it includes eight figures to create a convincing loading scenario.

The kit features small metal components for structural detail alongside the plastic sprues; the rubber tyres are supplied separately to improve realism.
Build time varies with skill level, but expect several weekends for careful assembly, painting and finishing, especially when adding weathering and a diorama base.
Yes, the kit contains decal sheets for marking options; trimming and careful setting solution will help them sit properly on the model.
The kit is designed as a static display model. Converting it to a running model would require custom engineering and is not supported by the standard parts.
