1/35 Scale BT-7 Recreation from Tamiya 35309

The Tamiya 35309 kit presents the Soviet BT-7 cavalry tank with careful attention to panel detail and road wheel arrangement. Known for its high mobility and experimental features, this representation preserves the BT-7s sloped armour profile in miniature form.

Design Background and Performance

Inspired by Christie style undercarriage, the BT-7 used coil spring suspension paired with a powerful engine to reach top speeds close to 31 mph. Its capability to remove tracks for road travel made it flexible in varied operational settings.

Assembly Highlights

The kit supplies photo-etched upgrades, a metal towing chain and a bending jig for brass parts. Clear components are provided for the headlight lens and vision guard, and the track design uses link-type sections that form accurate straight assemblies.

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Length: 161mm
  • Width: 65mm
  • Includes photo-etched parts and metal towing chain
  • Link-type assembly tracks with one-piece straight sections
  • Clear parts for headlight lens and vision guard
The build sits at an intermediate level due to small photo-etched parts and the metal chain; experience with fine parts and basic modelling tools is recommended.
Standard model acrylic or enamel paints suit the kit; primer first, then a base Soviet green or period appropriate shades, followed by washes and weathering for authentic results.
