During WWII, the British Army had a need to offer flexibility for paratroopers who had formerly been dropped behind enemy lines; their solution was the foldable airborne bicycle (in accordance with some, called "Parabike"). It proved light sufficient to be carried in vast amounts on transport aircraft, and of course and to be carried individually boating by paratroopers. That makes it scaled-down, the bike had a hinge within the framework so it could be folded.
