1/35 Ford GPA amphibian kit from Tamiya

The Ford GPA earned the informal name "seep" because it combined jeep utility with waterborne ability. Used by US forces and later by Soviet units during the Second World War, the GPA shared key parts with the GPW jeep. About 12,800 were made by 1943, giving it a distinct place in wartime vehicle history.

Tamiya presents the 1/35 Ford GPA with updated mouldings and extra-fine parts that improve accuracy over the earlier U.S. Amphibian Ford GPA Kit (Item 35043). The kit provides a rewarding build with realistic surfaces and accurate proportions.

Build Details and Presentation

Highlights include an opening hood that exposes a modelled engine compartment, a well-detailed interior and driver area, plus photo-etched components that sharpen the small-scale elements like the grille. These features make the model appealing for display cabinets or compact dioramas.

Two infantry passengers and a driver are supplied to populate the vehicle and add storytelling to your scene. The kit is best suited to modellers who enjoy precise assembly and painting to bring out the vehicle's character.

This model is better for builders with some experience. The photo-etch bits and interior detail need steady hands and patience, though careful beginners can attempt it with extra time.
The kit includes a driver and two passenger figures, a sheet of decals for markings, and photo-etch parts for finer details.
Use a good primer, apply thin even coats, and consider pre-shading to bring out panel lines. Light washes and dry brushing will enhance the texture on the hull.
