The KV-1 entered service around 1939 and earned a reputation for heavy armour during World War II. The early 1941 variant carried the 76.2mm ZIS-5 gun and used a welded turret design with armor up to 75mm, giving it strong defensive capability in the battles after June 1941.
German units sometimes used rudimentary wooden and paper KV-1 silhouettes to aid unit recognition. Reflecting that history, the Tamiya kit includes a small replica suitable for dioramas, allowing builders to depict identification drills or forward-area scenes with period detail.
