German machine gun crews were vital to infantry formations in World War II, providing continuous fire support during advances and defensive actions. Crews usually consisted of five men including a leader, gunner and ammunition handlers. The MG42, introduced in 1942, stood out for its rapid-fire capability and reliable performance at distance.
The Tamiya model shows a soldier assigned to carry and set up the MG42 tripod. It includes an early-style Walther pistol holster and options to finish the figure with or without a helmet. The tripod builds from over ten parts for accurate mechanical detail, and decals plus a small base let you position the figure in realistic diorama scenes with other figures.
The kit reproduces the 1936 field uniform with green collar trims seen early in the conflict. Later wartime uniforms evolved into the model 1940 pattern, which used an all-green scheme to improve camouflage and production efficiency.
