Although the Spitfire often takes the headlines, the Hawker Hurricane played a vital role in early wartime air defence. Originating in the 1930s as a low-wing monoplane, the Hurricane Mk.I featured a sturdy design with fabric-covered rear sections and entered RAF service around late 1937. It held its own against faster opponents by specialising in bomber interception and was produced in large numbers, serving with multiple air arms including Finland.
The 1/48 Tamiya kit captures the Hurricane Mk.I's characteristic silhouette with crisp moulding. Photo-etched parts enhance cockpit fidelity and the cowling is removable post-build to reveal the Merlin powerplant. Two spinner and propeller options are included along with three crew figures. There are six marking schemes and a 36-page Photographic Reference Manual to guide accurate finishing.
