2006 saw four manufacturers, BMW, Alfa Romeo, SEAT, and Chevrolet, compete the entire world Touring car Championships. With BMW having all but sown up the Manufacturer's Championship inside 2nd final round from the season, the last competition brought next to an incredible finish to see which BMW group motorist would claim the motorists' Champion-ship. The growing period completed with BMW Team British driver Andy Priaulx winning the championship by the slightest of margins, 1 point over BMW Team Germany motorist Jorg Muller.
