Recreated Classic Racer: Tamiya 58134 Edition

The Tamiya 58134 faithfully captures the K-Mart Texaco Lola T93 Ford in a 1/10 kit that mirrors period details. Built on the stretched F103L base, it is designed to deliver an authentic driving feel and scale appearance for model collectors and hobby racers.

Chassis Stability and Handling

The longer wheelbase of the F103L improves composure at speed and helps maintain directional stability. A rear 2WD layout combined with a ball differential balances traction with predictable corner exits. The front uses coil-sprung uprights, while the rear relies on a friction monoshock with pad for gradual damping control.

Scale Correct Body and Running Gear

The Lexan body reproduces the original silhouette accurately and mounts securely to the chassis. Rubber sponge tyres are supplied to give a consistent grip profile, and the included RS540 motor provides reliable propulsion for club events and practice sessions.

How It Compares to Related Kits

Against the Tamiya 58148 Rahal-Hogan Lola T94, the 58134's longer chassis and different body details change the car's behaviour on track, offering a distinct setup challenge for tuners and restorers.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/10
  • Chassis: F103L
  • Drive: 2WD Rear
  • Body: Lexan
  • Motor: RS540
  • Tires: Rubber sponge tires

For hobbyists after an accurate period model that can be prepared for track use, the Tamiya 58134 blends visual authenticity with a chassis that responds well to basic tuning and tyre selection.

Standard hobby tools are sufficient: side cutters, small screwdrivers, hobby knife and fine files. A set of hex drivers helps for neat assembly.
The rubber sponge tyres perform best on clean, flat outdoor asphalt; on rough or dirty surfaces grip will be reduced and alternative compounds may be preferable.
You will need a radio transmitter and receiver, a suitable ESC for the RS540 or upgraded motor, a compatible servo, and a battery pack with the correct connectors.
