Back to the Track: Buggy Champ by Tamiya

The Tamiya 58441-60A revives a period off-road icon while offering reliable construction for todays hobbyist. It blends the chassis proportions of the original with materials that handle frequent driving and tuning sessions.

Sturdy FRP Chassis and Reinforcement

A 2mm FRP main plate combined with an aluminium reinforcing plate gives the 58441-60A a predictable flex pattern. That build helps maintain traction during cornering and reduces twisting under load, while full ball bearings keep moving parts efficient.

Suspension and Damping Details

This kit uses four independent suspension units, with double trailing arms up front and a swing axle at the rear. Die-cast suspension arms and oil-filled dampers control wheel movement and help the buggy stay planted over bumps.

Wheel and Tyre Characteristics

Grooved front tyres and block rear tyres are fitted to three-piece centre-lock wheels, chosen to deliver steering precision and rear traction for acceleration and jumps.

Basic modelling tools are enough - screwdrivers, pliers, hobby knife and small spanners. For neat results you may want side cutters and a set of hex drivers for fasteners.
Yes. The 58441-60A layout accepts many common 1/10 upgrades like different dampers or alternative arm designs, though some aftermarket parts may need minor fitting work.
You can use LiPo packs if your chosen ESC and battery tray accommodate them. Ensure correct mounting, secure wiring and choose a compatible charger to keep everything safe.
Regular checks of screws, bearings and dampers are recommended. Clean out dirt from the chassis and apply light lubrication where specified to maintain smooth operation.
