The G-Class has been a go-to for rugged style since 1979 and the G 320 Cabriolet from 1997-2001 stands out as a compact, capable two-door version. Tamiya captures that character in the 58629-60A RC kit that sits on the adaptable MF-01X 4WD chassis.
The MF-01X layout is made to be versatile for both smooth road sessions and light off-road running. A durable monocoque frame integrates gearbox units and a rear-mounted motor for a neat drivetrain. Drive is routed via gears to the rear while a propeller shaft powers the front; differential gears in both gearboxes aid traction and steering balance.
With the battery pack mounted centrally the model benefits from predictable balance. Independent double wishbone suspension at all four corners with friction dampers gives composed handling. Semi-pneumatic rubber tyres fitted with scale tread patterns add realism and usable grip for club runs or backyard trails.
The MF-01X accepts short, medium and long wheelbases using the included spacer blocks and optional prop shafts for 210mm, 225mm or 239mm configurations. The kit provides M-05Ra uprights and hub carriers and owners can fit Item 54614 M-05 Ver.II Carbon Reinforced L parts for finer rebound control.
This Tamiya G 320 Cabriolet on the MF-01X chassis is a practical project for pilots who like a scale appearance with room to tailor setup between road and light off-road running.
