Return of a 1987 Icon Reworked

The Tamiya Hotshot II has been brought back with careful revision by Jun Watanabe, keeping the character of the original while improving fit and finish. This 1/10 scale kit captures the nostalgia of the late 80s era for dedicated hobbyists.

Body Styling and Detail Changes

The kit arrives with a bold blue polycarbonate body that is pre-cut and finished to save time on painting. A taller roll cage alters the driver silhouette, and metal-plated uprights and wheels with a matte finish add authentic period detail. Blockhead Motors decals complete the look and can be swapped for custom graphics.

Chassis Layout and Mechanical Setup

Under the shell the Hotshot II features a 4WD drivetrain and double wishbone suspension. It uses one front transverse damper and two rear CVA II oil dampers, paired with a 540-type brushed motor layout. Note that the ESC, radio and battery are not included so you will need to fit electronics to suit your setup.

Comparing It to the Wild One

Sharing the Blockhead Motors style, the Hotshot II differs from the Wild One in suspension geometry and overall handling. Drivers seeking a classic off-road ride with a period feel will prefer the Hotshot II.

This Hotshot II is well suited to builders who appreciate classic R/C design and want a kit that is quick to finish yet true to its vintage roots. It is a rewarding project for tuners and collectors alike.

The pre-cut, pre-painted body reduces paint work, but the chassis and suspension require patient assembly. A model-building toolkit and basic soldering experience are useful.
The kit is set up for standard 7.2-7.4V packs commonly used with 540 brushed motors. Choose a pack and ESC rated for the motor to ensure reliable performance.
It excels on loose dirt, grass and hard-packed trails. With tyre swaps and setup changes it can also be run on mixed circuits, but it is optimised for off-road use.
