The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII evolved from earlier marks with targeted changes like an enlarged rudder and the Merlin 60 family engine plus a retractable tail wheel. Entering service in 1943, the Mk.VIII saw widespread deployment across Mediterranean and Pacific theaters and engaged aircraft such as Luftwaffe fighters and the Japanese Zero.
Tamiya's 1/32 rendition focuses on authentic panel detail and correct proportions for the Mk.VIII. Moulded rivets and optional extended wingtips are provided, and the design allows modellers to fit landing gear stowed or extended using magnetic components. A display stand is supplied for airborne presentation.
The kit replicates the armament layout with two 20mm cannons plus four 7.7mm machine guns, and shows the Rolls Royce Merlin engine with removable cowlings exposing oil tanks and supercharger details. Movable control surfaces are modelled for realism and optional fuel tanks are included for varied display styles.
