The Supermarine Spitfire keeps its place as a classic wartime fighter thanks to its clean lines and nimble handling. Created by R.J. Mitchell, the design evolved steadily during WWII. The Mk.XVIe is notable for its Packard-built Merlin 266 engine, bubble canopy layout and reinforced armament used in ground support roles.

Operational Role and Design Changes

Building on the Mk.IX platform, the Mk.XVIe introduced extra fuel capacity and improved weapons fit. These changes extended operational range and allowed it to meet the shifting demands of later combat operations over Europe.

What You Get in the Kit

Tamiya's 1/32 kit recreates the aircraft with excellent surface detail and supply of parts. It contains a detailed Merlin 266 representation, movable flying surfaces and selectable undercarriage positions. The cockpit moulding is realistic and components allow authentic positioning of flaps and wheels.
