The Supermarine Spitfire has a long service history and is one of the most recognisable WWII fighters, with production spanning 1936 to 1948 and more than 20,000 units produced. The Mk.V family, and the Mk.Vb in particular, provided frontline RAF capability after upgrades to more powerful Merlin engines.
Armament on the Mk.Vb typically mixed four 7.7mm machine guns with two 20mm cannons, offering a balance of firepower. Some Mk.Vb airframes were modified with clipped wings to boost low altitude handling. For operations in dusty climates the TROP version adopted a Vokes dust filter to shield the engine, later refined to reduce aerodynamic drag.
The Spitfire went through continuous adaptation during the war, serving in many theatres and evolving with field fixes and factory improvements, preserving its reputation among modellers and historians alike.
