The Ilyushin IL-2 Shturmovik played a vital role in World War II ground-attack operations and saw very large production, with more than 36,000 aircraft built. Initially a single-seater from March 1941, the type was adapted to a two-seat arrangement to improve mission effectiveness, and wing revisions in late 1943 refined handling.
The Tamiya 1/72 IL-2 kit gives enthusiasts a faithful small-scale rendition of the aircraft. At 162mm long and 203mm wide when completed, the model captures the IL-2s robust lines. Detailed elements include the intake duct plus radiator and oil cooler assemblies, together with a well-formed two-seat cockpit and tidy wheel wells.
