The A6M2-N Rufe was Nakajima's floatplane conversion of the Mitsubishi Zero, adapted to operate where airstrips were unavailable. Tamiya's 1/48 rendition gives modellers a faithful small-scale subject to study and build, with classic floatplane lines preserved in miniature.
Faced with island campaigns and limited shore facilities, the navy required fighters that could operate from water. The A6M2-N merged the Zero's flight characteristics with floatplane hardware, first taking to the air on December 8, 1941 and entering Pacific operations soon after.
This kit highlights the large central float and wing armaments, offering a realistic assembly challenge. Careful painting and rigging will make the finished model stand out in a collection or as part of a small diorama.
