The Fw190D-9 was developed to tackle high-altitude threats and refine the proven Fw190A airframe. Equipped with the Jumo 213 engine producing about 1,750hp and a lengthened fuselage, the D-9 delivered better performance at altitude compared with earlier variants.
Deployed in September 1944 with units such as III/JG 54 "Grunherz", the D-9 also supported Me262 jet missions as fighter cover. The Tamiya kit provides a faithful static replica that highlights the airframe changes introduced on this late-war type.
Tamiya's 1/48 model emphasises clean panel lines and accurate shapes, making it a satisfying project for those who enjoy careful painting and finishing. The kit includes parts that show the elongated nose and canopy differences, allowing builders to match specific wartime markings.
