The Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI combined heavy forward firepower with endurance, becoming a versatile aircraft in WWII. Introduced to service in September 1940, its standard fit included four 20mm cannons in the nose and six 7.7mm machine guns.
Adaptations followed as operations changed: the Beaufighter was converted to a night fighter using Airborne Interception radar, spawning the Mk.1F. The Mk.VI adopted 1,670hp Hercules VI engines, added a rear-facing 7.7mm gun for defence and a revised tailplane for better stability. Production topped 5,900 examples and the type operated across European and overseas theatres.
The Tamiya 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI model offers accurate cockpit and weapons detail for a convincing scale replica. Builders will find the parts crisp and the assembly rewarding, though careful masking and painting are required for the best presentation.
