The Douglas A-1 Skyraider represents a practical and rugged attack aircraft from the mid 20th century. Designed to fulfil the U.S. Navy's need for a multi role attacker, the Skyraider combined payload capacity with a robust airframe. The Tamiya 1/48 scale kit recreates the aircraft in plastic, offering a satisfying construction process for experienced hobbyists and collectors.
Initial development started in July 1944 and the prototype flew in March 1945. By May 1945 production orders reached 598 machines. The Skyraider used the Wright R3350 radial engine rated at about 2,800 horsepower and featured three large fuselage dive brakes that were part of its operational design.
This Tamiya kit captures the Skyraider's sturdy lines and the external load options that made the type versatile. Surface detail and part fit are focused on helping modellers show off ordnance loads and operational wear, making the kit a good match for those who enjoy military scale subjects.
