The Nakajima Gekko Type 11, nicknamed "Irving" by opposing forces, was conceived as a night interceptor in the late 1930s. Its twin engines and angled gun installation allowed it to engage heavy bombers from unexpected angles. Tamiya's 1/48 rendition preserves these characteristics for modellers who appreciate period aircraft detail.
Built to patrol and intercept at night, the Gekko used oblique-firing guns to avoid direct head-on engagements. The kit replicates that setup faithfully and gives the modeller the choice to represent the gun inspection hatch in either the open or closed position for added realism.
Tamiya's engineering delivers precise parts and two decal schemes, together with two pilot figures to enhance diorama or display builds. The finished model presents a clean, historically minded representation of this specialised fighter.
