Tamiya 61087 1/48 Messerschmitt Me262 A-1a - Authentic Scale Jet for Hobby Modellers

The Messerschmitt Me262 A-1a is widely recognised as the first operational jet fighter. This Tamiya 1/48 kit recreates the jet's sleek profile and gives model builders a historically significant subject to assemble and finish.

Historical Notes on the Me262 A-1a

Development came under wartime constraints and suffered delays from shifting priorities. Production of the fighter variant began around November 1944, equipping it with four substantial 30mm cannons aimed at disrupting Allied bomber formations. Some late examples were adapted with rocket armament for specialised roles.

What the Kit Offers

Tamiya delivers precise moulding and parts designed for clean assembly. Included are decal sheets for four different Luftwaffe markings, enabling builders to choose authentic late-war paint schemes and unit markings.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/48
  • Material: Plastic
  • Decals: Four different markings
  • Assembly: Glue required
  • Paint: Required for finishing
Beginners with basic plastic modelling skills can complete the kit, but expect to use filler and careful sanding to achieve a smooth finish on intricate areas.
Parts are well detailed but trimming of flash and removing mould lines will improve fit. Dry-fitting components before gluing is recommended.
Yes. The four decal options cover a range of late-war Luftwaffe markings, allowing representation of multiple units and camouflage patterns.
A hobby knife, sprue cutters, sanding sticks, and good quality plastic cement will streamline the build. An airbrush gives the best paint finish but brushes work too.
