As part of the STEM range, the Tamiya 70243 Triple Crawler gives builders a hands-on way to learn about moving parts and mechanical systems. It is suitable for hobbyists who want a short, instructive build that highlights basic engineering ideas.
The design uses two primary crawlers at the front and a smaller tail crawler to assist balance and traction. That tail section helps stabilise the model when tackling rough surfaces or dropping from ledges, and alternative assembly of the side panels lets the model run on its side for different tests and demonstrations.
The kit includes the Mini Motor Slim Gearbox (2-Speed) so users can see how gear ratios change performance. This component is a practical way to introduce concepts used in simple robotics and mechanical projects.
The constructed model measures 178.6mm by 97mm by 72.3mm, making it compact for bench display. It requires two AAA batteries, not included, which keeps the power needs straightforward for classroom or hobby use.
