Tamiya 71108 Mechanical Rabbit - Hopping Type Kit

The Tamiya 71108 Mechanical Rabbit is a compact Robocraft build focused on motion exposure and straightforward construction. Colourful panels and visible mechanics make it a useful teaching aid for the fundamentals of linkages and gear interaction.

Construction Highlights

Semi-clear parts reveal the gearbox and moving elements so you can see how the mechanism works. The styling includes elongated ears and rounded contours for display appeal, and the assembly sequence balances snap-fit pieces with a few screws for secure joins.

Movement Mechanics

A single R03/AAA/UM4 battery (not supplied) powers the motor, which sits with the battery holder at the front to improve balance. The rear actuators drive the hopping motion while front rollers keep the rabbit tracking smoothly.

Using on Tracks and Shelves

The supplied guide fittings let you trial the rabbit on Mini 4WD tracks, but flat smooth floors are recommended for consistent hopping. When inactive it works well as a small display model showing moving internals.

Specifications

  • Total length: 115mm
  • Total weight: 95g (without batteries)
  • Body material: ABS resin
  • Includes gearbox and motor
  • Screwdriver included for assembly
  • Requires one R03/AAA/UM4 battery (sold separately)
  • Continuous running time with alkaline battery: 40 minutes
The hopping action works best on flat, even surfaces; uneven ground can interrupt the gait and reduce hop consistency.
Common wear parts like gears or small plastics may be available from spare part suppliers; check authorised outlets for Tamiya components if a part needs replacing.
With an alkaline R03/AAA/UM4 cell expect around 40 minutes of continuous operation under normal conditions, though run time will vary with battery brand and load.
