The Tamiya 71112 Mechanical Racehorse is a compact Robocraft kit that highlights basic mechanical principles while offering hands-on assembly. It is aimed at modellers and STEM learners who enjoy watching gear and rod linkages in action.
The horse uses a synchronous left-right leg action to maintain stability while moving. It runs roughly 1.3 times faster than Tamiya's earlier mechanical rabbit due to adjustments in wheelbase and leg linkage. Motion is transmitted via link rods from the motor and the design provides two running style options for different gaits.
Putting the kit together is straightforward, with a combination of screws and snap-lock parts. Cable ends are marked to ease wiring, making the Tamiya 71112 approachable for school projects or hobby workshops.
Most parts are moulded in transparent orange so the moving internals are visible. Three sticker sheets allow you to customise the horse mask, racing number and jockey outfit to create distinctive finished models.
Operate the model on level, smooth surfaces for best results. Avoid rough ground, inclines or plush carpets which can disrupt the leg action and slow the model.
