The Tamiya 75027 Line Tracing Snail II brings entry-level robotics into a simple build, helping newcomers learn about sensors and circuits. The finished snail patrols a black path drawn on white paper, creating a visible example of autonomous behaviour for learners.
This set uses smoke-tinted ABS resin for the body and chassis and comes with two motors and pre-wired components including the sensing and control board. Line sensing relies on an infrared LED and phototransistor combination so the unit can follow a track, and a green LED lights when the sensor detects a dark line.
Adjustable features include a speed switch and a sensor trim dial to set how reactive the snail is. When the sensor detects a black line the right motor runs to steer forward and left, while leaving the line activates the left motor to steer right, and this alternate drive pattern keeps it on course.
