The Gneisenau was a prominent German capital ship of the late 1930s, launched in 1938 as part of the Scharnhorst class. Its listed displacement of about 26,000 tons understates the ship's actual standard displacement of roughly 31,800 tons, a marker of its true size and presence.
Armament included nine 28 cm main guns, a battery of twelve 15 cm secondary guns and numerous anti-aircraft positions. With substantial armour and the ability to reach about 32 knots, the Gneisenau combined protection with speed. This Tamiya kit captures those elements at 1/700 scale with well-defined parts for accurate assembly.
