The Tamiya 78021 kit recreates the Japanese aircraft carrying cruiser Mogami at 1/350 scale, capturing the vessel's historical significance. Conceived under London Naval Treaty limits, Mogami first carried 15.5cm guns before later refits to 20.3cm armament. She took part in key WWII operations, including Midway and Leyte, making this a rewarding project for history-minded modellers.
This model demands careful assembly to reflect the Mogami's intricate structure. Builders can opt for a waterline presentation or a full hull build, and the reinforced framing elements plus supplied screws aid accurate alignment during construction.
Detailing is enhanced with etched brass parts, clear components for bridge windows, and laser-cut gun elements. The inclusion of metal-plated prop shafts and polycaps allows realistic turret movement and secure mounting of moving parts.
Once finished, the model is presented with a metal nameplate and display stand for shelf display. The kit also contains parts for 11 Aichi E13A floatplanes, and you can display up to six in-flight models around the ship for added realism.
