The Yamato represents one of the largest and most heavily armed battleships of its era, launched in December 1941. Its waterline length reached 256 meters and it displaced roughly 70,000 tons. The main battery of nine 46cm guns had an effective reach near 41 kilometres, while the hull design and armour protection reflected advanced naval priorities of the period, seen in operations at Leyte Gulf and Midway.
Tamiya 78030 captures the battleship at a 1/350 scale, producing a model 751.5mm in length with a single-piece hull that simplifies alignment. The kit features finely engraved deck surfaces, accurate bridge and funnel shapes, and detailed mast and sonar reproductions for a convincing finished model.
The kit reproduces the triple 45-calibre 46cm turrets with waterproof covers and includes secondary 15.5cm and 12.7cm guns plus the 25mm anti-air mounts. Articulated parts such as the stern crane and rangefinders increase display options, and four reconnaissance floatplanes are supplied to complete the set.
