High-Gloss Sparkle for Scale Modelling

Tamiya LP-48 Sparkling Silver is a lacquer designed for modellers who want a pronounced silver sheen. The 10ml bottle delivers a brighter sparkle than LP-11, making it handy for chrome effects, trim highlights, or broader coverage with an airbrush. It produces a durable finish that can serve as a basecoat and accepts enamel overcoats when applied correctly.

What Makes Tamiya Lacquers Popular

Tamiya lacquer range is prized for consistent pigment load and reliable application. Whether laying down fine brushwork or spraying panels, LP-48 gives good metallic realism and a tough membrane that resists wear in display use.

Preparation and Thinning Tips

Thin with Tamiya lacquer thinner for smooth spray patterns and to avoid spit or clogging. Remember lacquer shades may differ slightly from Tamiya acrylics and aerosols, so always trial on a scrap piece before finishing your project.

LP-48 bonds well to many hard modelling plastics after proper cleaning and light sanding. It is not suited for flexible polycarbonate shells used on RC cars.
Priming helps on some plastics and improves adhesion and uniformity. If surface porosity or colour blocking is needed, use a compatible primer before LP-48.
For most airbrush setups you should thin LP-48 with lacquer thinner to the right viscosity. Straight from the bottle is usually too thick for smooth atomisation.
LP-48 provides a brighter, more sparkling silver effect than LP-11, making it a better choice where a livelier metallic finish is desired.
