Create Natural Turf Effects Using Tamiya 87111

Tamiya 87111 Texture Paint in Grass Green offers a paste formulation with 5mm coloured fibres to simulate grassy ground on scale displays. Apply it over Diorama Texture Paint (Soil Effect) for a deeper, more natural result.

Practical Coverage and Drying

A 40ml bottle will cover about a B4-sized patch with a single layer. Drying time varies with temperature and humidity, usually around 3-4 hours in warmer conditions and 4-5 hours in cooler conditions. Because it is water-based the smell is minimal and tools clean up with water prior to drying. Use a spatula or a worn brush to spread the paste rather than new fine brushes.

Colour Blending and Finishing

To alter tone, mix small quantities of other Tamiya acrylic colours into the paste. For surface weathering, enamel washes and dry-brushing over the dried texture add definition. This product should not be used in an airbrush as the fibres and paste can damage the equipment.

What This Texture Represents

The paint creates a grassy texture rather than showing separate blades, so factor that look into your landscaping plans. Its water-based nature keeps handling tidy and suitable for indoor modelling benches.

Dry times are seasonal but generally 3-4 hours in warm weather and 4-5 hours in cooler conditions.
It mixes well with small amounts of Tamiya acrylics for colour variation, but test compatibility before large batches.
The product is water-based and designed for indoor modelling; if using outdoors, consider sealers and weatherproofing.
A small spatula or an old brush works well to lay the paste without harming fresh bristles.
