The Fiat CR42 Falco is a prime example of late biplane development, combining a metal fuselage frame with aluminium wing components to retain nimble handling. Although it lagged behind newer monoplane fighters, it proved useful in Mediterranean combat and ground attack roles. After Italy capitulated, the Luftwaffe adapted the CR42 for night harassment sorties and training duties.
This Tamiya release, based on the original Italeri tooling, reproduces the Fiat CR42 at 1/48 scale with fine surface detail. Builders can decide whether to fit the aerodynamic wheel spats or leave the wheels exposed. The set contains a pilot figure and useful extras like 50kg bombs, fuel drums and jerry cans, and provides four marking schemes including Western Front liveries.
