The North American P-51D Mustang entered service in May 1944 and used a laminar flow wing profile to cut aerodynamic drag, driven by the Packard Merlin V1650-7 supercharged engine. The teardrop canopy enhanced pilot visibility and the aircraft carried six 13.7mm guns. With external drop tanks the Mustang could escort bomber formations deep into contested airspace.
U.S. carmakers switched to war production and produced vehicles adapted as staff cars, commonly 4-door sedans with distinguishing rear-hinged doors and V8 powerplants. These cars were practical transport for command personnel and this miniature captures the look for vignette scenes.
