The Tamiya 89779 kit recreates Soviet soldiers from the 1979-1989 Afghan campaign, reflecting operations in rugged highland terrain where donkeys and trained dogs were practical support assets.
This 1/35 plastic set includes seven figures sculpted by ICM in dynamic poses, showing activities like guiding a donkey, handling a working dog and operating a heavy machine gun. The kit provides headgear choices including field caps, sun hats and steel helmets to help with accurate painting and conversions.
The contents include both fixed and folding-stock versions of AK rifles, plus a grenade launcher. A modelled Dragunov sniper rifle and an NSV heavy machine gun are also supplied to enhance battlefield realism.
