How much tougher are these than plastic uprights?

Aluminium is stiffer and is less prone to the flex that can affect steering precision, but it can still bend or crack under severe impact. It trades ductility for strength.

Will the blue finish hold up to regular use?

The coloured finish is primarily cosmetic and resists corrosion, but chips and scratches are possible after contact or crashes. Inspect after heavy use.
