The Vickers Wellington GR Mk XIV was a notable maritime patrol aircraft during WWII, using ASV Mk III radar together with the Leigh Light to hunt submarines at night. To fit the radar the nose turret was removed on many examples, and some crews repainted a turret outline to retain the aircraft's look. Its Hercules powerplant produced 1,735 hp, supporting long patrols from southern bomber bases.
Trumpeter's 1:72 kit reproduces the Wellington GR Mk XIV for scale enthusiasts. The model mirrors the full-size dimensions with an 86.2 ft wingspan and 64.6 ft length scaled down, and comprises 205 plastic parts that allow for a finely detailed build.
Expect a moderately challenging project with many small assemblies that reward careful work. The kit shows maritime fittings like the chin radome for the ASV MK III radar to add visual accuracy. Decals let you represent aircraft from No. 304 Squadron or No. 458 Squadron for historical displays.
