Trumpeter 02258 F6F-3N Hellcat Scale Reconstruction Kit

The Trumpeter 02258 F6F-3N Hellcat model kit allows modellers to reconstruct a key night fighter from World War II. Introduced to carrier service in November 1943, the Hellcat played a vital role in night operations. The F6F-3N carried the AN/APS-6 radar, with a dedicated antenna on the starboard wing and a cockpit radar display, both represented in this kit for realistic assembly.

Historical Notes and Build Interest

The F6F Hellcat became known for its durability and combat record, while the night-fighter F6F-3N added radar capability for nocturnal missions. This kit provides detailed components that make for an engaging build, rewarding careful modellers with accurate surface detail and assembly complexity.

Display Scale and Details

At 1:32 scale the completed model measures 320mm in length with a 418.25mm wingspan, offering a commanding presence on display. The inclusion of a clear cowling and a photo film sheet for the instrument panel enhances realism and collector appeal.

Fine snips, a hobby knife, precision tweezers and sanding sticks are helpful for removing parts from sprues and cleaning seams on the small components in this kit.
The decal sheet is designed for standard model paint systems; use a decal softener and seal with a clear coat to ensure adhesion and blend edges into the paintwork.
The antenna detail is provided and can be glued in a fixed position during assembly; with careful trimming and support it is possible to pose it to suggest operational fitment.
