Trumpeter 1:32 F6F-5N Hellcat Night Fighter Kit

The Trumpeter 1:32 F6F-5N Hellcat kit captures the night-fighting variant with fidelity to its wartime role. Fitted with an AN/APS-6 radar and a heavier weapons fit, the F6F-5N carried two 20mm cannons alongside four .50 cal guns to engage targets at night.

Grumman produced 1,432 of the F6F-5N, which operated with both Navy and Marine Corps units from carriers and forward airfields. The radar installation and armament changes are the main differences from the baseline F6F-5.

Assembly Challenge and Display Scale

Designed for modellers who enjoy complex kits, this set includes 374 plastic pieces and features selectable folded flaps and wings for varied display poses. A clear engine cover highlights internal detail, and the assembled model spans 418mm across the wings and measures 320mm long.

  • Length - 320mm
  • Wingspan - 418mm

Assembly time varies, but experienced builders should allow several weekends to assemble, paint and detail the 374 parts to a high standard.
The kit reflects the F6F-5N radar installation visually; model accuracy focuses on external features and cockpit/engine presentation rather than functioning electronics.
Careful seam cleanup, weathering around panel lines, and using the clear engine cover to paint and detail the engine will lift the realism of the finished model.
