This 1:700 scale plastic kit recreates the World War II heavy cruiser USS San Francisco CA-38, released within Trumpeter's 1:700 series and aimed at model builders focused on external fidelity and display presentation.

The New Orleans class represented the last interwar heavy cruiser design built under treaty limitations for the United States Navy. Seven ships were completed with similar external lines; wartime upgrades increased displacement as radar, electronics and extra anti-aircraft armament were fitted. Ships of this class saw prolonged service in the Pacific theatre and earned multiple battle stars.

The kit depicts USS San Francisco in her 1944 configuration, and the supplied decals reproduce the Measure 33/13d camouflage.
