Admiral Hipper wound up being commissioned in April 29th, 1939. She have been completely initial of five vessels of this woman program. She participated inside German intrusion of Norway. Seven vessels from 19 was sunk, nevertheless the convoy spread and bad weather aided their escape. In short supply of 203 mm ammo, Admiral Hipper returned to Brest on 14 February 1941.
