The German Sd.kfz.186 Jagdtiger was developed as a heavy tank hunter during World War II, built to engage enemy tanks and infantry at range. Work began in February 1943 and a wooden mock-up was shown to Adolf Hitler in October that year, a key milestone in the design process. The vehicle was originally labelled Jagdpanzer VI before the Jagdtiger name became standard.
Two prototype builds used different running gear from Porsche and Henschel respectively. The Henschel layout, with nine road wheels, entered production in July 1944 after an intended December 1943 start was pushed back because other armoured programmes like the Pz.Kpfw V Panther were prioritised.
The Trumpeter 07254 kit lets modellers reproduce the Jagdtiger at 1:72 scale with 92 parts that capture external features accurately. Included decals represent the German three-tone sand/green/brown scheme to help achieve an authentic finish on shelves or in dioramas.
