This 1:144 plastic model reproduces the TU-142MR Bear-J variant, a maritime communications adaptation of the Tu-142 line, intended as a compact, display-ready subject for hobbyists and collectors.
In service, the Tupolev Tu-142MR was a Tu-142 conversion built to provide long-range communications with submerged strategic submarines. Conversions removed the under-fuselage search radar and incorporated a winch pod and trailing wire antenna for extended-wire communications, together with forward fin-mounted communication fairings and additional electronic countermeasure fittings on some production aircraft. The platform supported Cold War strategic communication and fleet-support missions.
The kit models the MR-specific external features such as the winch pod under the fuselage and the fin-tip forward fairing. Detail work concentrates on external surfaces at the 1:144 scale; assembly demands attention to small parts and optional rigging for the trailing antenna if the builder chooses to depict it. Decal choices correspond to the supplied marking options.
A tidy small-scale depiction of the TU-142MR Bear-J highlighting the MR conversion details, ideal for shelf displays and reference modelling.
