About the Volkswagen Type 2 (T1)March 1950 saw the debut of the Volkswagen Type 2 which took the much-loved Volkswagen Beetle as a base. An air-cooled 4-cylinder engine was employed at the rear of the boxy yet curved body. One of the most popular among the wealth of its variations was the “Samba” microbus, which had a 23-window version encircled by windows and employing a canvas roof. It accommodated 9 adults and was notable for its flat floor and twin side doors. The Type 2 (T1) was produced until 1967, and ever since has enjoyed massive popularity the world over.
