If your spur is a 48-pitch item, an 11T pinion like the XRAY 385611 should mesh correctly once proper spacing is set. Confirm tooth count and pitch first.
A simple hex driver and a small set of feeler gauges or shims are normally enough to achieve the correct mesh; no specialised tools required for most installs.
Check the pinion after every few runs for burrs or uneven wear, especially if you race frequently or run in dusty conditions.
Material alone has minimal effect on motor temperature, but smoother mesh from a well-cut steel pinion can reduce drivetrain losses and minor heat buildup.
