TRF418 Touring Chassis Breakdown

The Tamiya 42270 - 1/10 TRF418 Chassis Kit brings a racetrack-focused chassis to the 1/10 touring class, combining a lightweight carbon fibre plate with tunable suspension geometry. It was refined using feedback from leading TRF drivers to enhance controllability.

Race-Proven Layout and Balance

Originally prepared for the 2014 IFMAR event, the TRF418 introduces a reworked layout to improve handling precision. Its belt-driven 4WD layout smooths drivetrain inputs, and the independent double wishbone suspension plus aluminium oil dampers deliver consistent damping across cornering phases.

Notable Mechanical Changes

Updates include newly shaped front and rear arms for improved steering characteristics, a distinct centre bulkhead to adjust chassis roll, and revised steering arms for a more predictable steering feel. The kit includes a 20T pinion to reduce speed bleed when off the throttle.

For drivers who want a highly configurable touring chassis, the TRF418 provides solid component quality and a wide tuning window, making it suitable for varied track conditions and set-ups.

The separate centre bulkhead changes how the chassis rolls, offering a different balance between front and rear grip which helps fine-tune corner behaviour.
Choose a motor and ESC matched to your racing class and battery chemistry. Something mid-range to high-power with smooth throttle control pairs well with the TRF418's precise chassis.
Yes, the kit accepts typical 1/10 touring car wheels and rubber or compound tyres used for carpet and asphalt tracks, depending on your set-up goals.
